Re-introduce the zero-carbon building standard

The construction industry is more than capable of delivering zero-carbon buildings - it just needs a clear signal from the Government that it is no longer acceptable for new buildings to lead to an increase in carbon emissions, together with proper enforcement of building regulations.

A zero-carbon standard should be reintroduced such that by 2020 all new buildings must have renewable energy generation on site and no net operating emissions.

Why the contribution is important

It is environmentally and economically illiterate to be building new homes and offices today which will need to be retrofitted in the next couple of decades in order to meet our carbon reduction targets.
