How will technology improve our journeys?

How we get around is going to change significantly in the future. New technologies are improving transport to make it safer, cleaner and better connected. Self-driving cars and electric vehicles will improve the air we breathe and make our journeys more efficient.

Technology is affecting people's attitudes to travel. The majority of adults have access to a smartphone and users are increasingly expecting to be able to plan, book and pay for transport through their phones, making journeys easier and more reliable.

Through the Future of Mobility Grand Challenge, we can shape our future to make travel safer, better connected and more efficient.

On 21 May 2018 the Prime Minister announced the first Future of Mobility Grand Challenge mission: To put the UK at the forefront of the design and manufacturing of zero emission vehicles, with all new cars and vans effectively zero emission by 2040

These are big ambitions -  and not for government alone. We need everyone to contribute: industry, academia, local government, civil society, as well as individuals themselves.

We are committed to a transport network that works for everyone. To begin, we have one question:

How can we ensure that future transport technologies and services are developed in an inclusive manner?
