Improving traffic flow

In the Highway Code Rule 243, consider enhancing "opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space" with the use of double red lines, thereby making the rule enforceable.

This enables traffic to approach and clear the junction cleanly, especially larger vehicles, reduces pollution by removing the bottle points so the traffic flows, and enhances the ability of pedestrians to cross at a junction.

All local authorities planning groups could decide which roads to enforce, where known bottlenecks occur, or pedestrian incidents have happened.

This would also make road name signage more prominent and viewable more often.

Consider double red lines for outside schools and emergency entrances.

Traffic should flow smoother

Why the contribution is important

I believe it is important to deal with heavy congestion in such a way that road users can easily understand the requirement placed on them by a change that is already understood with red routes, and removing the misinterpretation that blocking junctions can be got away with.

The intention within Red Route regulation can be expanded as resources allow, without an excessive additional fincial burden and only small legislative changes to enact.
